If you read the History of Autodesk book on the website, you'll see that
it isn't a "bogus" patent - those who filed the patent were able to
exploit it to make money from licensees (including Autodesk, who paid
some $50k or so for a license because they were being threatened with a
lawsuit shortly before their IPO). It is, however, a classic example of
abuse of patent law for exploitation of the commons...
