[Gllug] PCI USB card for my Sparc Ultra 5 causes it to hang on boot

I just bought an el-cheapo USB card (VIA VT6212) for my Sun Ultra 5.
Plugging this card in causes the system to hang with a blank display
on boot.  I can't even get to the 'ok' prompt using [Stop]-A.

Suggestions how to go about debugging this?  Are there any jumpers on
the motherboard to tell the Sun to go easy on strange-looking PCI
cards?
