[Gllug] 802.11b/g cards

I'm thinking of putting a linux box on our 802.11b/g network at home. It'll be
a not-so-little storage server so it'll be a PCI wi-fi card not a PCMCIA one.

I've done my bit of reading through
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/

so far a straw poll of techies at work comes up with finding a supplier of
buffalo 802.11b cards because they are guaranteed to work.

However my wireless switch is b/g and I'd really like to be able to take
advantage of the extra bandwidth.

This
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Linux.Wireless.drivers.802.11ag.html#acx100
suggests that ALL the current 802.11b/g cards use the same chipset, and that
it works with linux.

Have I got that right? Can I reasonable expect to buy any b/g card and get it
to work?

yours, stumbling around in the dark looking for the light switch,
Huw
