yes good idea because debian is totally develop on community no
influence from company. but fedora too has latest software and untill
now they are doing good.

yes you what you can do is install debian woody base system and after
that update to sarge
put the sources in /etc/apt/source.list
apt-get -u dist-upgrade would do

else you can download sage iso but i'm not sure they have the installer
on that .. because debian is currently testing their new installer

Fedora is base of RH i suppose i have work on Fedora Core 1 it's rpm but
it has yum and apt which you can use apt for rpm sort of yum is also
really good have yum sources in freshrpms
> Correct me if I'm wrong, but there seemed to be a general consensus that RPM is crap at dependencies management and APT is better. Is that still the case with the enhanced RPM tools out there?
not 100% sure debian is also break the dependency of you get apt sources
from several sites specially when u want to install some packages
because debian current is woody is too old and when you for for blading
edge software sometimes there are problems in dependency basicly glibc
brake if you have the base on woody and try to update to latest software
