Let's get the obvious arguments out of the way first:
(1) Windows 98 "support" is going to very minimal.
(2) You don't have the source to Windows 98 so you can't possibly do
it yourself / pay someone else to do it for you. In contrast you
can happily support Red Hat 6.2 yourself.
(3) The Linux upgrades are free anyway, in stark contrast to the
enormous expense of WinXP.
