For all of the above I would recommend having a look at xplanet[1] which
comes with royalty-free satellite-photo maps from NASA, city co-ordinates
from Getty[2], and country boundaries amongst (many) other things.  Plus, it
makes a nice background, especially with updating cloud photos superimposed.
