[Gllug] XFree86 shuts down after startup

You might want to paste in your ~/.xsession-errors and .xsessionrc or .xinitrc
files,

it sounds like you might be trying to start an x-session that does not exist,

if you want to rule out problems with X itself,

simply try and do 

#$> X 

this will start X, you should be able to move the mouse about easily etc, to
return to the console just press CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE
