[Gllug] rel="shortcut icon" or rel="icon" for favicons?

Does anyone know which is the correct one?  rel="icon" seems to work
in Mozilla, but not in Safari.  And is there any sort of "standard"
around this (I know that MS just made it up, but has any recognised
body codified it)?
