you should certainly be able to add an entry to .bash_profile or whatever so
that 'who' is run immediately after login.

that may or may not be what you want.

getty is probably waiting for login input for ages, so I am not sure it is
possible to get a 'up to the minute' picture until AFTER you have entered
something on the keyboard !

wiser heads may know better
