Well absolutely, nothing ever mitigates the need for backups.
My point being, I suppose, that in the case of a card failure, I'd
rather be able to unplug a disk from the card and plug it into something
else and it work. Recovering from backups can be a slow and laborious
process.
So these disks really might have data written in an undocumented
proprietary format on them?
