It is really no surprise.  Many many websites are just plain terrible.
Here's one which my company are currently contracted to fix (this is
the "before", naturally):

[BTW, try mousing over one of the white squares.  We only discovered
this 'feature' was possible after we analysed the page source.  Now
try cutting and pasting this mystery meat text into, eg., an email.
Don't cheat by using View Source!]

one, or look at it in lynx / a blind reader):

[Note: This page only works in Mozilla, because it wasn't intended to
be given to the client at this stage.  I haven't done the necessary
