Well, if you weren't running famd before, and Courier happened to not be 
doing any polling either, then you're running an extra (albeit likely 
small) process, which is doing some (albeit likely minimal) work when 
certain fs events occur.

So, it could quite easily slow a machine down, though whether or not it 
would be noticeable...
