I've tried that one on him in the past, but CSS is "too hard", but he
did like the pretty pictures. I need some way to convince him that the
"too hard" is "what's needed".

Richard Jones' site "A List Apart" was closer to the mark with
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/bathingape/

A little less pseudo-academic waffle and a bit more fire-and-brimstone
and it would be right on the mark.
