A while ago I had a redhat install running X and fvwm on a 486/25 with
8Mb RAM. It's possible, but it's not an experience I'd recommend,
especially with today's hardware prices. Unless the OP's budget is
extremely limited I'd strongly suggest a newer machine, or at least
taking the RAM up to the max the motherboard will support. I'm sure it's
possible to pick up old 72pin memory cheap on eBay.
