If you are at that stage where you want to experiment a little :-), give debian
a try for a day or two, there are more than enough people here willing to help.

It wont have quite such up-to-date packages as the latest Fedora, but will be
very robust. Installing debian once or twice is good experience for any linux
fan to have, even if they turn out not to like it :-)
