I have seen particular named series of discs which are available with
different control cards. It is still only a guess that the hardware may be
designed, assembled, and tested to the same standard. I would have thought
that all drives produced by a company like IBM would have been produced to a
similar quality, but it turned out that some factories were more equal than
others, with the result that all the factories were sold and IBM no longer
produce their own discs.
