I've brought cheap 2nd hand desktops from these people and they've been
fine.

I brought 5 machines from them, only had a minor a problem with one -
that was fine once i replaced the memory.

But I would also avoid laptops if at all possible and get a desktop
instead. 2nd hand desktops are so safe, because you can replace any
broken part reasonably cheaply.
