[Gllug] ADSL problem

Don't know whether Will has solved his ADSL/microfilter problem yet.
The advice given by Chris and others so far should help - you can also
get some interesting info off various UK websites by searching for 'telephone
wiring'.  Whilst the incoming 'b-leg' wire at -50V should be connected to pin 2
and the 'a-leg' at 0V (ground protential) to pin 5,  personal experience seems
to show that modern phones are not fussy about the polarity.  I believe the
correct polarity is only really important for phones/systems that use the
older 'earth recall' method (modern stuff all uses time-break recall).
However, to eliminate all possible sources of problem, it might be worth
checking that the wires are the right way round!

If at all possible, backtrack the wires coming into the building to see
that you only have one master-socket (it has a capacitor in it) connected
to the line and nothing else daisy chained to it.

Problems like this can often only be solved by a process of elimination;
eg swap the micofilter, swap the phone, swap the socket in turn until the
problem disappears.
