Yes and no. Some older displays showed massive flickering when trying
video animations. I guess that in such cases, the animation was running
"too fast" for the screen (e.g. the screen couldn't change the pixels
quickly enough) -- or the screen was just misconfigured. But I haven't
seen this kinds of problems for quite a while.
Personally, since my first notebook I've worked on real CRTs less and
less. I find them less tiresome for the eyes - and in terms of quality I'm
quite happy with it -- and running some 3D games at 1600x1200 on my
thinkpad works absolutely great - no flickers whatsoever...
[Note: In terms of quality - I am a developer, not a DTP / Image
processing specialist. For MY needs I am fairly happy with the colors and
color distribution on the screen, but I admit that for someone doing
professional grade image processing CRTs are still more important. Said
that, though, a friend of mine is a professional ad photographer - and
AFAIK she just uses her G4 Mac notebook for the editing, just using the
TFT. So I guess it's becoming less and less of a concern in that sector,
too.
