It would be unrealistic to say that everything is perfect about a
distribution that is run by a democracy of a thousand petulant hippies,
all shouting at each other whenever anything changes.  One of the
positive effects of this process, though, is that the various
administration mechanisms tend to be austere, elegant and stable (and
austere and stable where they aren't elegant).  Most importantly for me,
they scale well and are easy to automate.  This simply cannot be said of
a system where the core configuration files are explicitly designed to
be maintained by interactive tools - interactive X tools, these days!
The old curses tools are still there but try using them and you get
warnings that they are not supported and don't have all the features of
the GUI tools.  That. Is. A. Joke.

The majority of Linux users, however, are not sysadmins (there's big
difference between a System or Network Administrator and somebody who
happens to administer their own system) and so this is not relevant to
them.
