[Gllug] Kernel compile taking forever...!

I'm trying to compile the default kernel package on ubuntu following the
instructions from this page:

http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/KernelBuildpackageDetailedHowto

I'm compiling for k7 only.

It's taken about 10 hours so far (on an Athlon64 3000+) and still not
done!  I haven't compiled a kernel for a couple of years now, but does
it really take this long?

(Note that the stock Ubuntu kernel probably contains nearly every
module, I guess, but anyway...!)
