Also ddrescue. (slightly intelligent reading of the device in question,
copes with failure well).

Do multiple ddrescue's (in a decent quality drive - I've seen some
really f' up with a crappy CD) then a bytewise voting merge. Worked For
Me to recover a scratched CD we had no other copy of :->
