[Gllug] Random freezes

From other responses, it doesn't seem to be a standard 2.6.8.1 issue, or
someone would have pointed me to a bug.  I blame my hard disk.  Perhaps
it's time to upgrade my mainboard/processor/oldest hard disk.  See
separate thread...
