Not really a solution to the problem you're facing, but well
worth being aware of.

http://unattended.sf.net/ - unattended Windows installs using
Linux with full control. Can actually be used instead of imaging
and works in situations where imaging is a pain to maintain
(heterogenous hardware, mixture of Windows 2k & XP, need for
machine-specific configurations, etc)
