Pretty much everyone has a TV - and to deny someone a TV is to exclude them
from a big chunk of society.

What difference does this make to the family destryed for the license fee?

This is a prime example of economics gone mad - internalised profits and
externalised costs.

If the BBC had to pay the prison and childcare costs associated with non
payment of the licence fee another solution would be found pretty fast.

Who does the current system benefit?

If the BBC was paid for out of direct taxation would anyone be worse off?
