Bad form replying to myself I know but I got this slightly wrong:

That should be "2005030101". It's normal to tack a serial number on to 
the date. As far as bind is concerned it's just a number, as long as 
it's larger than the last one a slave will accept that it's newer and 
transfer it. The YYYYMMDDss is just a convenient way of making the 
number bigger every time.
