Can you supply more details about the Lego kit, a friend of mines been
looking for something like this for his son.

I'm surprised.  A friend of mine has children who are learning robotics at
school and they're using some sort of proprietary Lego kit and language.

Miranda's a rather elegant teaching language.  Unfortunately the only
implementation is non-free.  So I'd vote for (a sane subset of) OCaml
instead.
