Yep. It works fine, but it was essentially abandoned by Sony shortly
after release, and is very dated. The official PS2 Linux kit runs a
2.2 kernel, and is based on RH5.2. There are third party distributions,
including a Debian based one (Black Rhino), but Sony essentially screwed
them over by pulling the plug on getting it through the approvals process.
It's still available as a downloadable distribution, but hasn't been
updated in a couple of years.
The PS2 makes a reasonable Linux device for simple tasks (web browsing[1],
email, firewalling, etc.), but don't expect to do anything too demanding
with it.
