Indeed, although Ubuntu's last release, Warty, based its live CD on Knoppix.
Hmm.. this seems a little cyclic now.  It really does make sense!  Honest!

And for the record, Ubuntu is not based on Debian stable as Mark mentioned.
It's based on sid too.
