[Gllug] Can't configure X on Debian Sarge

I assume this means you have got yourself x-window-system-core?

If something (yourself included) has messed with XF86Config-4,
dpkg-reconfigure won't touch the file.  You might try:

md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 > /var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum

And then run dpkg-reconfigure.
