Hi all,

Since Saturday is traditional "looking at computer parts" day, and since
I've actually got a plausible reason to buy something, I thought I'd
check in here for advice first.

Does anyone know which DVD writers perform *well* under Linux? And by
*well*, I mean "writing under DMA is supported so writing doesn't bring
the machine to a juddering halt".

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, bit hte current one I'm having
judder-problems with is a NEC drive, and the IDE cards available to
attach a drive to are:

0000:00:07.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 06)
0000:00:0f.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) PCI0680 Ultra ATA-133 Host Controller (rev 02)
0000:00:10.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Promise Technology, Inc. PDC20265 (FastTrak100 Lite/Ultra100) (rev 02)
0000:00:11.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) PCI0649 (rev 02)

The machine is running 2.4.28 - maybe that's the problem?

cheers, Rich.
