Hi Steve:

Just a few ideas:

Are there two machines on the network with the same IP address (bit me
once)?

Does the Intel card have weird autonegotiation options which are not
being set correctly?

Is the machine badly grounded? (Symptom - occasional very slow
networking)

If you boot that machine "normally" and do a very large file copy, do
you get full LAN speed?
