The time+effort it takes to "rescue" an older machine is directly
proportional to the its age raised to some unknown power.

You install Linux in under 15 minutes on new machine.
You are lucky to install Linux in 15 days on much older systems.

Of course I am talking Desktop Linux here, not servers.
