Speculation, but the original Windscale piles were probably powered by
uranium from Canada. There was/is a big reactor installation at Chalk
River and Canada has uranium deposits.
Or perhaps from Australia - I will have to check.
These days I'd imagine the Belgian Congo to be a prime source.
