Well there is setuptools:

     http://peak.telecommunity.com/DevCenter/setuptools

Which automagically installs packages and dependencies from the cheeseshop:

     http://www.python.org/pypi

Combined with eggs:

     http://peak.telecommunity.com/DevCenter/PythonEggs

this makes something even better than CPAN, I think (well it will do 
when all the package owners use it), because you can have many versions 
of the same package installed at once.
