[Gllug] Multiple systems, multiple disks

Last week, trying to puzzle out why I was unable to install Ubuntu on to
a second hard disk in my current box, I took Tet’s point, that it was a
‘BIOS boot order problem’ (Discovery Day, 12/11) and poked around in the
BIOS set up, provoking the beast (not Tet) into recognising the two IDE
hard disks on the system. But even when these two were recognised by the
system, my attempts to install Ubuntu still met with failure. The
process got as far as the reboot moment and then took a sharp left and
offered me either SuSE 10 or XP, both of which are already installed on
the SATA disk, sda1, and well embedded in GRUB.
I will be happy to furnish the necessary technical context for anyone
keen to help.
