[Gllug] W800i to Linux

Hi Diana,

It is a matter of preference.

Gnome -> Bigger Clunkier Icons, Emphasis on Clean Desktop never eye-candy.
Very accessible, functional ergonomic (and based on useability studies).
The less distraction the better.

KDE -> Cute shiny icons. Emphasis on many gizmos. More choice in
making things even more candy-like (transparencies, animations, etc).
The more gadgets - the merrier.

Both camps defends their idea of a Desktop is the ideal.

But you have a choice of having logging off and on - depending on your mood.
When I felt blue - I choose Gnome.
When I felt happy - I choose KDE.

There are many others Desktop types as well to add.
Some people like XFCE
But Gnome and KDE are the main ones.
Here is a link to confuse things further:

About upgrading.
I am not sure because I haven't had a Suse for ages.
But usually most Linuxes you can upgrade - it gives you an option
without losing the data.

Nevertheless - always - always make a backup.

I need to find a link where it explains how to backup your emails, etc
on a CD rom.

Better still - use an External Hard Drive.

regards

Henry
