I suspect that JFS doesn't have support for this. XFS certainly doesn't.

Replace the disk.

You might consider running smartctl -a on the drive, as well as the
various options smartctl has for dumping the log information. Modern
drives collect all sorts of statistics you can view.

Also, Maxtor (you did say it was a Maxtor disk, right?) will probably
have some tool you can run to get the drive to report similar
information. Such tools are normally under the "support" section of the
manufacturer's site, or under the "My disk is dead, I want to get it
repaired, give me an RMA" section.
