[Gllug] Qmail reverse DNS lookup

Hi,

I'm normally a Postfix man, but I have a managed host running qmail all
managed through a plesk frontend (and a bit of tweaking for the things I
can't plesk).

Anyway, I have an issue where mail being sent via the server is timing
out. If I telnet to port 25 of the server from one of my other public
servers I get the "220 thedomain.com ESMTP" message. If I connect from my
home ADSL or the company I'm providing the mail service, it takes ages to
appear, if at all (which is why the connection is timing out).

I'm guessing this is because the reverse dns is not set up for the ADSL
service (the customer is on BT)?

I'm using smtp authenication to check the users are valid on the few
occasions it does connect and relaying is turned off.

I've googled for how to turn off reverse DNS, but this appears to be for
authenticating a mail source once you've got it, not when you first
connect and mainly talks about tcpserver which isn't installed. The
config files mentioned are not on the system.

Putting the IPs in the hosts file doesn't appear to help as qmail doesn't
use hosts...

Anyone with ideas how I can either turn reverse DNS off or fool it into
resolving the ADSL IP quicker?

Cheers

Andy
