[Gllug] Blown mobo?

Hello everyone.

I have this old donated VAIO PC that I've been using as my main machine
for about 18 months, PIII something-or-other.

Tried upgrading the RAM from 256 to 768 meg. PC2100 non-ecc. It didn't
go too well - The only thing the machine does now is beep repeatedly
which googling around seems to mean some memory problem. It doesn't like
the old 256 meg stick, the new one (brand new from crucial) or both.

I might not have handled the memory as delicately as I should, so I'm
not sure if the memory is blown, the mobo is, or both.

So I need to get a new base unit of some type but didn't want to give up
on this just yet. Was thinking of buying a cheap PC2100 stick off ebay
as an attempt to test the thing but it all seems a bit silly.

Any ideas on how to test the memory? Anyone willing to put said memory
in an old mobo and see if it works, or something?

have fun,
