[Gllug] Slow machine

Ever since I upgraded one of my boxes to Fedora Core 4 it has run slowly
on certain things - primarily some audio and video stuff.

I can play MP3s etc at normal speed, but playing a simple piece of PCM
audio results in output with audible gaps/jerks. Similarly video (eg
MPEG) does not play properly.

Following an eralier query on this list I tuned off selinux and
downgraded the video driver (which made some 3D graphic stuff faster)
but the general problem - which wasn't there on FC3 - perists.

Any clues?
