1.0.6 is old and vulnerable to exploits. Upgrade to 1.5.0.2 (the most
recent version).

As for your SMTP AUTH woes, I think you should contact gaweb and check
that you have all the information needed for access to their SMTP
relays.

It might be that pop-before-smtp is enough.
