[Gllug] Does anyone remember W98?

I've solved the RAM question.  Her original problem was a non-functional 
CD drive and she'd had a poke around inside the system to check it was 
connected.  The IDE1 connector is right next to the RAM and in checking 
the one I think she'd unseated one of the RAM sticks.  Between finding 
W98 was odd and trying out Ubuntu I'd done my own cycle of unplugging 
and reseating everything and now even W98 thinks there is 192M of RAM.

Only problem is that, although Ubuntu is perfectly happy with the CD 
drive, W98 still crashes every time you try to access it.  Methinks she 
needs to re-install W98, but of course...   she hasn't got a CD.  My 
offer to install Ubuntu has not been rapturously received.

Don't you hate being someone who "knows about computers"?
