That'll be what worries me :-(

Although I dislike half-arsed languages like PHP, I also have to host
websites, galleries and blogs which use it.

Actually I notice that planet itself is written in Python, although
it's batch-mode usage would seem to make it robust against most
(web-facing) attacks I can think of.
