have you downloaded and installed the mplayer plugins from here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu ?
usually these go in /usr/lib/win32 (At least they do for the Fedora
version of kaffeine/mplayer)
you will also probably need
libdvdcss
libdvdread
if you want to watch commercial DVDs.
I don't know what the package names will be on a SuSE system, but you
can probably install them using YAST.
