[Gllug] /etc under version control

I wonder if anyone has tried to put /etc under version control, or has
any opinions/experience to offer.  I read the following article, and
the comments nicely sum up some of the gotchas with using CVS (lack of
support for symlinks and permissions seem to be the major ones):

Perhaps storing some files under version control?
