MP3 is lossy, but how much it loses comes down to the bit rate it was

The audo codec is actually called Ogg Vorbis, and the BBC did experiment
with streaming ogg files at one point. I'm not sure if they still offer
that service. Anyway, if you want a portable player that does ogg, get
an iRiver. They do a nuber of cute devices, both flash and disk based,
and most of the range have ogg support.
