It can increase the spam that he gets, all it needs is a url like:

http://spammer.com/prettyGirl.jpg?email_id=wflsfslkfjjoiwfoiwfofl

Where the wflsfslkfjjoiwfoiwfofl uniquely identifies the random email sent out
-- the spammer now knows that he has a valid address that is being read.
