[Gllug] Is it me or are the CPUs getting slower?

Yes it does.
I've been fiddling around in this area on my laptop.
(amd64 3000+)
It's got 3 modes:
powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.60.0)
powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0xa (1800 MHz), vid 0x2 (1500 mV)
powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0x8 (1600 MHz), vid 0x6 (1400 mV)
powernow-k8: 2 : fid 0x0 (800 MHz), vid 0x12 (1100 mV)
(You should get this from dmesg).

It undervolts your cpu.
I've knocked 200mV off all 3 speeds, now my laptop cpu doesn't go above
60C (it was ~80C at full pelt)...
