Personally I'd go with a.n.other because of problems I've had with
homeworkers who use Telewest and couldn't send as any other address
other than their blueyonder one.[1]

I use PlusNet "Pay as you go" broadband which gives me 8meg, unlimited
mail addresses (using a subdomain), 100Mb webspace, perl, php, mysql,
phpmyadmin etc. for £14.99 (1GB transfer limit with additional GB at
£1.00 per month). Be warned though they also provide a similar unlimited
transfer limit called Broadband Plus. This one gives priority to http
and pop/smtp so things like p2p and usenet are almost non-existent. The
PAYG Broadband service has transfer limits rather than port restrictions
so things like usenet and p2p (if you use them) are normal speeds.
PlusNet also just mailed me to say that they'll be upgrading me free to
24meg if my exchange can take it sometime in the next six months.

If you do want to use them - can you go via this link (and accept the
cookie) - that way I get a referral and they take 50p off my broadband
charges per month (for as long as you're signed up). :o)

I use a netgear DG834G ( ebuyer:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=17521817477&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=52244
) for this - works a treat and includes an OSS firewall. I like it
because of the way I can lock it down (MAC addresses, not broadcasting
the SSID, 128 bit WEP etc.). The missus likes it because it's
unobtrusive (hides behind the TV) and it works without fuss. :o)

cheers
Ryan

[1] this was a while ago and Sam may be able to provide evidence to the
contrary but it drove me mad at the time and thus it marred Telewest in
my book. BT do something similar unless you use business broadband IIRC.
